If it were not for our dedicated volunteers, Heart Support Australia would find it hard to keep ticking along. Our passionate and dedicated volunteers all understand the importance that peer support, education and encouragement play in the recovery of cardiac patients.
Whether it's organising meetings in their local areas, hosting a coffee catch up or walking group, providing peer support to another Heart Support Australia Member (over the phone or face to face) or helping us organising events and fundraisers, our volunteers each make an important contribution to our organisation.
This year, Heart Support Australia was back again at the annual ACT Volunteering Expo.
Volunteers ACT holds this event every year and Heart Support Australia has enjoyed being actively involved in the event for the past two years.
The ACT Volunteering Expo provides a great space for current members of Heart Support Australia to meet with prospective volunteers and teach them about the fantastic work we do in the community.
It was this very event that put Heart Support Australia in connection with Shoukat Khan, who now works as our National Facilitator! Shoukat has run six Healthy Heart Programs, hosted four public seminars and contributed to several written pieces for Heart Support Australia since meeting us in October 2018.
We are looking forward to working with the sixteen new members and volunteers who joined Heart Support Australia at the recent expo and can't wait to find how best they can help Heart Support Australia in providing peer support, education and encouragement to the 4.2 million Australian's living with heart disease as we move in to 2020.
Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and give back to your community. If you are interested in volunteering with Heart Support Australia please don't hesitate to get in touch with us at National Office by calling 02 6253 0097 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
